I also loathe it when people are ignoring “real” people who are next to them while they rapidly text away on their phones. When I was babysitting last, the two oldest girls were sitting on the couch next to eachother. Instead of talking to eachother or to me, they constantly texted their “friends” and facebooked on their phones (how handy, portable facebook!).
Another real-life example which shows how unsocialized “social” people have become occured again while I was babysitting. I walked into the house after being admitted by one of the children and I walked into the living room. There on the couch was the mom, texting. I stood in front of her for at least two minutes before she looked up and said a brief hello and turned back to her cell phone. Now, if she were reading a good piece of literature, I would have understood. But she wasn’t reading; she was texting and could have very easily communicated with me!
As members of the A.F.L.I., we must do something about this awful lack of real conversation! (And with such a talented person as Savanna as our leader and founder, we will!)
