PEOPLE ARE FUNNY…
“For another perspective of Facebook, visit The Anti-Facebook League of Intelligentsia. It’s worth doing just because they’re pretentious enough to refer to themselves as ‘intelligentsia’.”- Angry Flat Cap
“So now you’ll have the most comprehensive database concerning people and their interests,” snarls SJ Buckner on her Anti-Facebook League of Intelligentsia blog. “You’ve made an information-sharing deal to help companies target consumers. Good. Because that’s what we all desire deep down inside. To be targeted. We all want to be the deer behind the hunter’s gun.”- UK Times Online
“Here’s an alternative view on Facebook. It’s a bit extreme, but interesting nonetheless.”
“Buckner’s concerns include frustration with inane updates and, more importantly, the view that “Facebook is exerting its influence to create a Web based on identity and relationships,” which she called a subtle but revolutionary approach. She said she believes the Web should be primarily about information and data.
“People harp on the ‘it-makes-communication-easier’ theme,” she said. “But they need to ask whether what they are communicating actually matters. Or whether it’s simply drawing them away from the three-dimensional world and flesh-and-blood people surrounding them.”
Buckner’s group may be part of that evolution. For all her opposition, she said AFLI’s primary intent is to “encourage critical thinking about Facebook and its effects on the development of the person and health of society.”"- Chicago Tribune

Saw a video commerical from Nivea supporting Natioal PDA Day – June 20th featuring commentary about how we, as people, are sending too much time on electroncial devices to communicate and specifically mentioning facebook! I was begining to feel excited that our message had finally leaked its’ way into the masses, BUT…my cynical nature proved me right again when i saw the sponser—–facebook!!!! Slicky Dick –kind of reminds me of Tricky Dick – you remember him! Anyway…copy reads…”There is no substitute for touch, but we hold our gadgets more than our loved ones. This is why NIVEA is naming June 20th National PDA Day. Join us & celebrate the power of touch!”
Take a look at the commic section in our AFLI website and you will see a cartoon that expresses this ‘economic tactic’ in all its glory. Just like the cartoon shows – facebook selling adds to use about being “facebook free”. Now you’e got a true to life example right in your face. Why can’t I be wrong about this stuff!? If I can’t supply the link here, go to youtube (where else of course!!) and plug in Nivea USA PDA Day -”No substitute for Touch
